Aging Concerns
Expression Lines

Frown Lines

Frown lines between the eyes are common with age. As the skin ages, it becomes less elastic, and less able to recover from the lines created by the underlying muscles.

They eventually form in all people with age. Exposure to sunlight, smoking, and other environmental factors typically lead to earlier development.

Frown Lines Context

Treatments for Frown Lines

Apart from avoidance of sun exposure and smoking, the main effective treatments for frown lines are Botox and Dermal Fillers.

  • Botox (Botulinum Toxin): Effectively paralyses the muscles that cause frown lines. Our skilled therapists are able to achieve this in a way that appears subtle and natural. Often, only botox treatment is sufficient to achieve improvement.

Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet and wrinkles under the eyes are common with age. They occur in facial lines of expression related to smiling. As the skin loses elasticity with age, these lines tend to become more permanent.

Treatments for Crow’s Feet

Apart from avoidance of sun exposure and smoking, the main effective treatments of crow’s feet and wrinkles under the eyes are Botox and Dermal Fillers.

Botox (Botulinum Toxin) effectively paralyses the muscles that cause frown lines. Our skilled therapists are able to achieve this in a way that appears subtle and natural. Often, only Botox treatment is sufficient to achieve improvement.

Additional treatments include Laser Genesis and Dermal Fillers. Our Pulse Aesthetics team will advise the best option to meet your aesthetic goals.

Crows Feet Context

Prevention

Active avoidance of UVB radiation from the sun is key to reducing the formation of crow’s feet and under eye wrinkles. After treatment with Botox, Dermal Fillers or Laser Genesis, daily use of high SPF (at least SPF 50) sunscreen is essential.

Medical-grade skin care is also important. These contain higher concentration of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide). Our Pulse Aesthetics nurse will give you advice on what Skin Products are best for you.

The other key ingredient is maintaining a healthy lifestyle - healthy diet, plenty of sleep and exercise, management of stress levels and alcohol reduction.

Volume Loss

Thinning Lips

Ageing results in a loss of volume of the lips, mainly caused by loss of collagen and elastin.

Treatments for Thinning Lips

At Pulse Aesthetics we use Juvederm, which is a hyaluronic acid Dermal Filler. This works immediately and results in a natural-looking increase in lip volume.

The art of the lip enhancement lies in achieving a natural-looking, fuller lip volume, which is in proportion to other facial features such as the eyes and the nose. In our older clients, vertical lip lines are usually treated at the same time.

Lip Volume Context

Juvederm/Restylane

Juvederm/Restylane is a Dermal Filler made out of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a protein that occurs naturally in our tissues and skin. Ageing results in a reduction of hyaluronic acid. Juvederm/Restylane replenishes hyaluronic acid, that in turn attracts water resulting in a hydrating, volume-increasing effect.

Juvederm/Restylane has an excellent safety profile. If reversal is required, an enzyme called Hyalase can be introduced into the area to dissolve any unwanted filler.

Upper Lip Lines

Upper lip lines are common with age, particulary after menopause as the volume of supporting collagen and elastin reduces. Sun exposure from UVB radiation, smoking and lifestyle factors such as poor diet and stress are other important contributing factors.

Treatments for Upper Lip Lines

Dermal Fillers are the mainstay of treatment to smooth out upper lip lines. Treatment will often be done in combination with Lip Fillers, and treatment of other facial lines on the chin, cheeks and around the eyes and forehead.

At Pulse Aesthetics we use a hyaluronic acid Dermal Filler called Juvederm. This is a naturally occurring protein that hydrates and adds volume to the skin.

Lip Lines Context

Additional Treatments

Additional treatments for upper lip lines and other facial lines include Laser Genesis, IPL Laser, and Medical-grade Skincare.

Laser Genesis stimulates collagen production under the skin for firmer and smoother skin.

Medical-grade Skincare contains higher concentrates of Vitamins A, C and B3 (Niacinamide). Regular use is important to maintain skin vitality. Sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or above is essential for skin maintenance.

Structure

Sagging Face and Jowls

Sagging face and jowls develop with age as the skin loses its volume and elasticity. This results in redundant skin that sags downwards appearing as jowls, loss of cheek volume, bags under the eyes and neck.

Another important cause is significant weight loss resulting in redundant skin.

Sagging Face Context

Treatments for Sagging Face and Jowls

At Pulse Aesthetics we offer Medical-grade Skincare, Dermal Fillers, and Laser Genesis. Occasionally we will suggest a referral to a plastic surgeon if the amount of skin redundancy is pronounced.

  • Medical-grade Skincare: Uses higher concentration of Vitamin A, C and B3 (Niacinamide). All of these promote skin rejuvenation. Ongoing maintenance is important after treatment.
  • Dermal Fillers: Using hyaluronic acid, these are effective at hydrating the skin to increase volume, smoothness and form.
  • Laser Genesis: Encourages collagen production under the skin. This has a smoothing and firming effect.
